Dr Karen Bridgman

Coming from a Nuclear Medicine background in the 1960s to 1980s, Karen changed careers in 1981 and studied to become a Naturopath.

As such she has been practicing as a Naturopath since 1983 - at Pymble Grove Health Centre (a holistic medical practice) for over 30 years and at Australian Biologics Testing services for over 25 years.

...............................................................................................

  • Karen has lectured widely at colleges and universities for 30 years, lecturing in a variety of subjects from 1983 to the early 2000s at the main Naturopathic Colleges in NSW.
  • She subsequently lectured at Western Sydney University from 2003 to 2008, in a variety of subjects including Nutrition, Philosophy of Healing and Diagnosis.
  • She was the author of the Nutrition textbooks for the colleges and WSU from 1997 - 2004 - Bridgman K 1999 ‘We Are What We Eat’, Starflower Publishing Sydney.
  • From 2004 to 2011 she lectured for the Master’s Herbal Medicine at the University of Sydney - Herbal Medicines Research and Education Centre in the Faculty of Pharmacy.
  • As a teacher/lecturer, she was, and is still passionate about transformative education and qualitative research. Her PhD research was a story of the critical role women have played in medicine through the millennia and their changing roles today.
  • Karen's major clinical and research interests today are in effectively utilising complementary therapies (mainly herbs, nutrition and lifestyle) to improve the health of cancer patients, improve the outcomes of patients with various 'controversial' infections (eg mycoplasma, borrelia, including dental infections) and in managing neurological conditions.
  • As an author, she has contributed chapters to many published books on CAM (worldwide) and writes regularly for a major health magazine.
  • Today Karen is regularly writing journal articles, presenting her research at international conferences and is maintaining a clinical practice (Thursdays). Her hobby is a small herbal stall at the organic markets on sunny Sundays.
  • She is relishing the opportunity to travel regularly, continuing to learn about different cultures and ways of being, and adding to her knowledge of other herbal and medical practices worldwide.
