tune into your body

Your body is constantly giving you feedback to allow you to make any adjustments you need, to maintain a perfect state of health. Wellness is your natural state, anything other than that is a sign that you need to pay attention and take appropriate action. However, if you are ignoring the real message the pain in your body is giving you, you create a disconnection between your mind and body.

For example if you repeatedly have headaches, you could give yourself a painkiller. However, the conscious approach would be to see if the headache is in relation to something else.

You may find that you constantly get a headache every time you are at work. You could then look at how you really feel about work and see if any changes need to be made. You may need to talk to someone; maybe you are not in the right career for you. Or perhaps you just need to change your thinking or perception around your work.

When you begin to operate like this you are maintaining the mind-body connection.
When signals and symptoms are small it is a lot easier to make adjustments and changes to get the body back into balance.

In Kinesiology disease is categorized into three stages of stress:

  1. Stage 1 stress: signals at this stage place a slight stress on the body. It is short term stress that passes quickly. For example, if you lose your keys you could feel anxious while looking for them; however the anxiety passes once the keys are found. The awareness would come if you asked yourself “Why am I repeatedly losing the keys?” The answer could be that you are doing too much, or need a regular spot to keep them. If you take notice of the signals at this stage, it is relatively easy to make adjustments.

It is also useful be aware of what you are thinking, when you are trying to find the keys. If you are thinking negative thoughts like “I’m late, I’ll never get there, I can’t believe I’ve lost the keys again”, it usually only makes matters worse. However if you are mindful of your thoughts and think “I’m sure they’ll turn up. What was I doing when I last had them?” you are likely to find them quickly. Your thought processes are supporting you. This is when you start to get the mind and body working together. Unfortunately, it is common that people do not take notice of what their body is telling them, when the signals are small.

  2. Stage 2 stress: generally occurs if you do not listen to stage 1 signals. Stage 2 stress, physically manifests in the body. This is the body’s way of telling you to wake up and look at what is really going on in your life. Stage 2 stress manifests in illness, such as the flu, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, depression, panic attacks. It is often at this stage that you would seek the help of a professional, such as a therapist or doctor.

If you get the link between the illness and what is causing the illness it is possible to heal at a deep and permanent level. For example, if you are constantly losing the keys and ignore why, over a period of time you could also develop panic attacks. You may then be motivated to work out why you are having the panic attacks. It could be because you feel overloaded with work and cannot see a way to resolve the issue. If you take responsibility at this stage, look at why you are taking on so much work and develop some awareness around the thought processes that are driving you, you can then make some positive, lasting changes.

The thought processes behind any illness often have to do with energy. Positive thoughts are light in terms of energy and flow freely through the body. Negative thoughts are heavy in nature, and if repeated often enough they form a belief. It is the negative or limiting beliefs that get stuck in your body energetically. If the belief system remains unchanged, disease forms in your body to give you the wake up call to change the belief to one that supports your happiness and well-being.

  3. Stage 3 stress: is where stage 2 stress is not healed at a deep level and a more serious illness develops to urge you to take notice of the imbalance in your life. For example if you are not taking notice of why the panic attacks are reoccurring and choose instead to medicate, a stage 3 illness could develop. This is because while you are medicating you are still repeating the same behaviours and thought process that caused the illness to occur in the first place. Stage 3 illnesses are usually serious and more difficult to resolve such as cancer, arthritis, kidney failure and gall stones. It is possible to heal stage 3 illnesses, however it is more difficult than dealing with a Stage 1 issue.

Your body wants you to be well, whole and happy. It will give you signals to tell you when you are out of balance. It is up to you to listen and get the real meaning of what your body is saying.

You can take a band-aid approach or quick fix by overriding the messages so you “don’t have to worry about it now.” Alternatively you can take the time to find out what is really going on and make the necessary adjustments. By linking what is physically happening in your body and your thoughts you can start to return to our state of natural well being and health.

You can listen and take action in relation to what your body is telling you to bring it back into balance. The reward is you will have control over and be truly empowered in relation to your health and happiness.

Kinesiology is a very effective tool in restoring a person’s state of physical and mental well-being. This is because it uses your body to give you information about any imbalances within the body whether they are structural, nutritional, emotional or spiritual. This information then empowers you to make the changes in your life required to bring your body back into balance. By teaching you to become in tune with the signals of your body at stage 1, you never allow stress to become part of your life in any permanent way. Happiness and well-being are your natural state and with kinesiology you are able to develop the tools to take you back to that state quickly.
